Guillena - The twelfth step ... Three months in Spain - CycleBlaze

Guillena

It was a late night last night and with having had less sleep than we would have liked but only a short ride ahead of us we were in no hurry to rush out before the check out time of eleven o'clock.

Today was out first day on the Via de la Plata to Santiago.  Navigation should be easy because apparently all we have to do is to follow the yellow clam shells.  But you need to find them first.

We spent a lot of time looking for the monument to the Via de la Plata on the western side of the Rio Gudalquivir. It is hidden in an ugly little plaza and seems rather neglected.

Making friends along the way.

We stopped into the church in Santiponce and had a look at their preparations for Semana Santa.  Their fraternity is scheduled to parade through Seville on Wednesday.

Santiponce also has a large Roman ruin, closed on Mondays unfortunately so this a heavily zoomed in shot of what we could see from the entrance gate.

Much of the route looked like the Romans had a hand in its design as it stretched northwards in a straight line.

There was one interesting river crossing.

Guillena seems a nice little village.  Our digs for the night is a hostel on the main road focused on pilgrims to Santiago.

Four bed dorm. Our fellow pilgrims for the night are a French couple of a similar age to us.

Hand washing. We had hoped for a washing machine but this would have to do.
