To Fort Portal: Happy birthday Rachel!

"I'm older now, you have to be more patient with me on the hills" Rachel says as Patrick smiles.

This has been a long stretch of cycling and today is a "short" day and looking forward to a pizza birthday dinner in Fort Portal! About 10 kms out of town we see a sign for a cafe and "coffee to go". We stop and though the customer service is slow we enjoy for the first time in a very long time a good cup of coffee and a cinnamon roll.

Today we see the hills covered with tea plants as far as you can see. Fresh pineapples are now being sold at the roadside stalls. Rectangle concrete buildings have been built as shops but the double doors are padlocked shut and look as if they've never been used. The Ugandan Forest Authority have planted pine trees, there are lots of eucalyptus trees that smell so wonderful as we cycle past. There are monkeys in the trees as well as signs indicating it is illegal to kill wildlife.

Our guesthouse is on the edge of town, African towns are dusty and noisy as Ugandans love loud music. We are in a cabin looking out over the veranda through tropical plants listening to a variety of bird calls. A very nice way to celebrate Rachel's birthday.

Another sunrise on the road.

We're surprised to find a coffee shop in a village near Fort Portal. She even makes nice cinamon rolls!

Our Idaho license plates are having a rough life. Today both failed in a similar way.
