Day 25 - Off to Frankfurt by train and then to Florsheim

Escaping the city

Being in the Frankfurt area but not near a river didn't seem like much fun so we planned on getting to Frankfurt HBF by train from Bad Homburg and then moving down the Main toward the Rhine where we would turn south for Heidelberg.

The 4 km ride to the train station in Bad Homburg

I had made sure everything was well tied down because I remembered that this station had the small elevator and I would have to stand the bike up, fully loaded.  Erika remembered to have her phone camera ready as I got out of the elevator.

I am arriving in the elevator

Now the tricky thing is to get all that to roll backwards

The pesky door tried to close on me again

Now that it is out and free, it wants to just topple over backwards

We arrived in Frankfurt and in true spontaneous fashion, did not follow the track I had prepared for my GPS but went into town instead to find a large book store.

Four stories of books (many of them with stories, ha ha) Erika came out with several new maps of southern Germany

We are rewarded with a beautiful path on the left bank, going downstream and generally west.

Very industrial on the right, we have left the river to go around the industry

And we are about to turn away to the left into some park like farmland

A last look to the right and all the industry between us and the river

I have to say something about our hats. For any of you who know the Grampy's, they too wear the Da Brims on their helmets. We love them, they provide good sun protection for your face, ears and neck. They also are a great attention grabber. We have not only had many people ask us about them and even more just give us funny looks but quite a few have also taken pictures of them so they can look for them on-line. If Da Brim has a sudden surge in European business I think the Paxman's and the Grampy's deserve a cut of the profits!

And what do you know, before we make that left turn, the river shows up and we cross it to the right bank

Occasional sections of dirt path today. Quite nice and smooth, actually. Wouldn't want it to be wet today

Just as we are arriving in the town we are staying in, Erika spots an Eis cafe!

A really nice ride today, overall.  Stayed in a private home that has been turned into a bed and breakfast.  It was cheap at 44 Euros, but a little cobbled together.  We were downstairs where it was cooler but bathroom was on main floor and shower was upstairs from that.  She was also offering breakfast but at 8 euros each so we passed and since we were early into the town, I rode to the local shopping mall for supper and breakfast.

Today's ride: 37 km (23 miles)
Total: 1,021 km (634 miles)
