On the Rhine again !

tWhat a pleasant day it was.  It was about 25 degrees Celsius most of the day.  Here is the map:

And the day started with a good breakfast. And then we got our earliest start so far.  The day's track started at 9:41 AM.  We had in mind to spend some time in Köln (or Cologne), to see the cathedral.

Cycling through Koln wasn't too bad. Decent cycle paths and respectful traffic.

A large, beautiful part close to the downtown. Most of the large German cities have substantial park areas inside their cities. They are well used and well kept.

A typical trail in the park gives you a bit of an idea of how large the park is.

The park is the Hiroshima Nagasaki Park and dedicated to peace.

The sheer size is amazing. The vaulted ceilings are made to draw the eye up to heaven.

It is probably silly to try to capture the beauty of the stain-glass windows but we had to try. They truly are amazing.

This alter was hand painted. One of several.

For such a grand cathedral, the organ was not very impressive.

The burial vaults can be quite ornate. This fellow much have liked dogs or they symbolize something unbeknownst to us.

What is left of the original Rathaus (townhall). Who ever chose the design of the building to add onto it was not very inspired.

The gift shop was well stocked with a good supply of chocolate. However, nothing was purchased - it would just melt.

We passed several sandy beaches. Many were full of people at play and sun-bathers. I was not aware that there were sandy beaches on the Rhine.
