Day 9 - The Big Climb

Rolled into Damascus on the cobbled together chain. Bike shop in town put on a new chain and adjusted my breaks

Damascus is where the Appalachian Trail and Transamerica cross. Lots of AT hikers in town. After some lunch we rolled another 33 miles to a hostel associated with the Elk Garden United Methodist Church

Total ascent today was a bit over 4,000 feet but the last climb was a continuous 3.5 mile 1,432 feet ascent monster. My legs are tired

This is a downhill bike trail that ends in Damascus. Outfitters carry you to the top and rent you the bike

Christopher GardnerI see the bamboo, but where are the Pandas?
Seems like you are ahead of schedule? Probably eager to get to those Rocky Mountains! Great pics - love 'em.

Keith Adams"... 3.5 mile 1,432 feet ascent ..."

That's an average grade of about 7.7 percent. Well done!
