First Ride in 129 Days
July 10, 2025
I'm supposed to be able to "resume normal activities" on July 21st, three months after my April back surgery, but I decided to jump the gun a bit today, and do a short ride 11 days early. I've gained so much weight, and have been so sedentary and down in the dumps the last months, that I thought it was worth the minimal risk of injury.
I pumped up the tires and wiped the cobwebs from the Fargo and headed out into a very hot and humid mid-morning.

I'm even more out of shape than I thought. Possibly my worst fitness level since I started bike riding 20 years ago.
Around mile ten, I took a dead end road that I'd never ridden on, for some reason, and followed it to its end a few miles later.
I turned around and followed the same route home. I was drenched with sweat, and tired, but my back felt fine. Maybe I'll try a longer ride tomorrow, but if I do, I'll definitely get out earlier in the morning.
