Sightseeing in Luxembourg City

On the last day of the tour, I had an entire day free to become a conventional tourist and do some sightseeing around Luxembourg City. After breakfasting in my hotel, I left the bike in the broom cupboard and set out on foot.

Luxembourg City is a weird mixture of medieval walls and modern glass and steel, all set around the rocky escarpment of the old town and ringed by verdant gorges, just outside the city centre. Even just walking through these gorges makes a pretty photogenic place for a wander.

A selection of Luxembourgeois architecture: the old town, the old fortress walls, and the modern city.

The pretty terraces gorges are still used for agriculture

Sometimes the town seemed like an Escher drawing

In the evening, I noticed that there was the tail end of a film festival. For a surprisingly low price, I could go and see an early showing of (somewhat bizarrely) Oil City Confidential, a film about Canvey Island and the band Dr. Feelgood. This was exactly what I needed after my long exertions.
