Took the overnight ferry from Fukuoka to Goto island which was a quite comfortable experience. The ferry stops off at a few ports before getting to Goto, and I woke from the vigorous swaying as the boat came into dock and set off, but I also made use of the showers.

Landing in Goto at 8am ish, we chatted with Alex, who grew up in the Netherlands and also touring the islands on his holiday. We parted ways after a brief chat to get breakfast.

Almost immediately it became clear that coming to the island was the right decision. The traffic is light to non-existent, beautiful scenery.

We stopped off at DonDon Waterfall for a quick swim, and camped at a picturesque spot overlooking the sea.

Lots of churches on Goto island. Quite a lot of history in relation to Christian missionaries in Japan, I think some of whom moved to the islands to escape persecution

Today's ride: 25 km (16 miles)
Total: 95 km (59 miles)
