Day 144: Port Neill to Cowell - A happy ride around Australia (third attempt) - CycleBlaze

Day 144: Port Neill to Cowell

Start: 9am
Distance: 87km
Ride time:  4:46hours
Average:  18km/hr
Max: 38km/hr
Finish: 3pm

I forgot to mention that yesterday I met Sol. He is a Kiwi just cycling around as he pleases. He does this for 6 months per year. He then has to return home so he is still eligible for the NZ retirement pension.

He has no fixed address. No house, no car, no property, no stuff in storage. Everything he owns is on his bicycle.

He was a nice guy. We spoke a little about bikes and mostly about vegetable gardening. Sometimes he does farm work. Sorry I didn't get a photo. I didn't even get to see his bike which is a Vivente.

This fish was turning with the wind like a weather vane.

It was a very small beachside town.

Today's road pic with wheat on both sides.

These horses seemed surprised to see me.

There has been very few trucks and no road trains since I left the Nullarbor.

This truck was carrying 2 silos from Sharmans in Long Plains, SA.

This stone building was built in 1911.

There were many attractive stone buildings in Cowell. I should have taken more photos. There were more stone buildings in this small town than I have seen anywhere else on this trip.

These tractors were waiting to bring in the fishing boats when they returned to shore.

There are no sandy beaches here, only mangroves.

I made an error when planning the next few days so tomorrow will be a long day to make up time and get back on schedule.

$29.

Titanium PenguinYou've camped in the exact same spot in the Cowell caravan park as we did 12 months ago, and in many of the same places in the Eyre Peninsula. Love reading your updates and I'm glad that you are getting to complete your much-interrupted circumnavigation.
