Days 15 & 16: Pont-en-Royans - Bulle (Switzerland) - Gauting (Germany)

Wednesday May 28

Departure day and we were all going our separate ways. Scott and Rachael were headed to Portland,  Susan was on her way back to Paris and Janos and I had our sights set on Gauting. But none of us would be at their destination  that night. First Janos was driving the Andersons to Lyon where they would catch their flight back to the U.S. in a few days, Susan would cycle to Valence for her connection to Paris and Janos and I would get as far as Bulle in Switzerland.

Janos and Team Anderson were off at about 9:30, and since they had a dress rehearsal last night, packing the car went smoothly, everything fit, even if it was a tight squeeze for Rachael in the back seat.

Everyone lends a helping hand.

Rachael worked out the logistics so that everything would fit. Scott's bike is already packed in its suitcase but her bike is on the rack making room for other things in the bike's suitcase.

Susan didn't take off immediately. She stayed and kept me company until she couldn't afford to leave any later if she wanted to reach Valence. Janos was back to pick me up around 12:30.

Susan and I spent time chatting in the "water bar" of the hotel until she had to leave for her cycle to Valence.

Janos and I were at our hotel around six. We had stayed here before and knew there would be no food within walking distance so we picked up a few sandwiches for a meal in our room. We knew neither of us would feel like going out again. It had been a long day.

Thursday May 29

Nothing much to say except that we made it. No pictures. The autobahn in Switzerland was still very congested, in Germany the traffic was lighter. It was good to be back home.

Nancy GrahamYou may have had a few “issues” along the way, but you also had a great 15-16 day adventure! I am always a bit envious of your bicycling adventures, but I do enjoy reading your journals and seeing your fantastic photos. Welcome home.

Suzanne GibsonThanks, Nancy! I do realize how good we have it with our geographic location, so many cycling possibilities at our fingertips. Sometimes I think we should be taking advantage of it more while we still can

Rachael AndersonMany thanks to both of you! It was great having Janos take us to the airport. I’m sorry it delayed your departure. We look forward to seeing you again!
