Rest day in Mukdahan

Funny place this Mukdahan! Absolutely buzzing with all the border and river related trade activities at daytime - completely deserted after dark. I walked down to the river last night at 7 pm and couldn´t believe it. I was by myself and the whole promenade was pitch black. Everything - apart from the hotels - closed. Weird atmosphere but I didn´t mind going back to the hotel early as my stomach has been rumbling for a few days now. I don´t think it is food related but has got to do with taking that medicine against my cough for almost 3 weeks now. So the meeting with Mark was postponed in the morning and I walked around town and the markets for a while, making sure I was never too far away from my bathroom.

Fortunately my upset stomach did not spoil my appetite as a good day has to start with a good breakfast. If there is a market around it will always have some restaurants attached and that´s my first choice environment

This is Mukdahan´s Pornpet Market, right opposite from my hotel

This lady is adding a tiny little bit of spice to the dip for the mangoes

After the foodmarket I moved over to the Indochina Market which is underground from the river promenade and they sell anything that neither your teeth nor your waist will like......

....but at least the shop next door will help you to camouflage that extended waist again

They go on about their amulets like diamonds. I love watching their checking and bargaining

When the offer is right I like some shopping too
