Toulouse

Today a fun and restful day in Toulouse. We spend some time in our room with our computers, then take a walk, not really sightseeing, just taking in the sights as they come. Toulouse is a wonderful city for people watching. Here are some pictures from that category.

Kirsten KaarsooI can never figure out if I like theses knockers or find them slightly creepy. Good photo though. It is my dilemma.

Steve Miller/GrampiesNow that we are home, we had a little foray into what I assume is North American pop culture, in the form of the Netflix series "Wednesday" , which is a Harry Potter - like teenage coming of age magic school related saga about Wednesday Addams, of the Addams Family franchise. Anyway, Wednesday has a "pet" disembodied hand that she calls "Thing". Kirsten might, or might not!, want to check it out.

So that was a lot of fun taking those pictures and having leisure time off the bike to process them.

Our hotel, Hotel Citadine Wilson Toulouse, suits our needs perfectly. It is centrally located with lots of eateries close by, we have a lift to get our bags to the fourth floor and back down again to the basement garage where our bikes are parked, and the best part is they have a laundry room! I just buy the tokens at the front desk and bingo, I am able to get all our clothes washed and dried within an hour, all for 9 Euros including detergent. We also have a small kitchen with hot plate, dishwasher, fridge and sink, all of which we do not use. Lunch was at a Chinese run Japanese place with bento lunches, very good.

I love Toulouse for its interational flair. A bento (弁当, bentō) is the Japanese iteration of a single-portion take-out or home-packed meal, often for lunch. Outside Japan, it is common in other East and Southeast Asian culinary styles, especially within Chinese, Korean, Singaporean, Taiwanese cuisines and more, as rice is a common staple food in the region. The term bento is derived from the Chinese term biandang (便當, pinyin: biàndāng), which means "convenient" or "convenience". Wiki

Graham FinchI always think of the word as meaning 'lunch box'... here that's what people get - a small card box.

Scott AndersonFor all the times we’ve been to France now, somehow we’ve never been to Toulouse. Maybe next year. Seeing all those mail slots makes it especially tempting.
