In Cologne

July 22, 2023 to July 24, 2023

We have passed through Miltenburg Rudenstien the Middle Rhine Gorge and are now moored in Cologne with a view of the spires of th Cathedral

It seems as if we have been on the ship for a very long time but very soon now we will be off it. Our next port is Amsterdam where we have another night and sightseeing. Then back to reality. I wonder if we will be able to think for ourselves let alone get ourselves to Bremen and buy bikes that will be our next challenge

Miltenburg is a lovely little town with amazing half timbered houses

we met this lovely young German girl from Frankfurt going for a trip for the weekend. She is so lucky to have such a wonderful resource so close

This morning we woke up in Rudenstein and went to an amazing museum of mechanical musical instruments all original and working. This enormous one plays a whole orchestra

Two beautiful Golden retrievers. i have never seen them this dark colour before

The Middle Rhine is a real highlight. It is surprising the different view you get of it sailing down the river. You are now so much more aware of the vineyards on the steep slopes. You certainly would have to be young and fit to work them

I loved seeing the little towns we had biked through like St Goar and my very favourite Boppard

This little castle is in the middle of the river and was used largely as a prison

The famous Loralie that lured sailors to their death

Shortly after we moored at a small village which has a famous music school and in the Baroque castle which is its home we were treated to a concert by two very talented students a piano player and a violin player

Now we are in Cologne Cathedral and the organ is playing

I must say my taste is much for the Gothic architecture of Cologne Cathedral than the over the top Baroque style which we have seen so much of

The massive Hautbannhoff in Cologne. See all the bikes. Cycling is such a way of life here so unlike home
