Day 50 - Chioggia to Venice

Today was really incredible. The weather yesterday afternoon and evening was unbelievably bad - winds up to 50 km / h with lots of rain and even hail. We were really exposed to it in our room on the 6th floor and it was very dramatic!

Luckily, as we had planned a short day we were able to get out to look around before it all kicked off.

As you can see, Chioggia is very beautiful and Venice-like. However, the real thing was yet to come, and surpassed our expectations! The weather was perfect, warm with clear blue skies, as we gently cycled and island hopped our way north towards The Floating City.

We even got to spend a few hours of the evening in Venice itself. If you are thinking of making a visit, I really think you should - obviously I'm not the first to say so but it is really incredibly beautiful, unusual, and magical.

It's hard to believe that it's a product of historical fact: it seems contrived. It's too ornate, too attractive, too well-lit, the water is too green. But some of it has been here for a thousand years  It's wild to think what it must have been like 50 or 500 years ago!

Tomorrow we explore!

Today's ride: 25 km (16 miles)
Total: 2,118 km (1,315 miles)

Scott Anderson Enjoyed reading this post. We’ve considered taking this oute up through the back door to Venice ourselves but have never fit it in. Looks like a great way to go.
