From Lake Ontario to Rochester, NY

Oh the wind and rain. Yesterday rain, today a lot of head wind. Very little rain though. Riding along the southern border of L Ontario gave huge vistas of fruit tree crops, along with the unnecessary headwinds.

That was pretty fun. A bit more sobering though was riding by and along the Underground Railroad. Pultneyville, was often a final stopping place in the US before slaves could get their freedom in Canada.

This Pultneyville manse was called a cross between a castle and a mansion.

After another 15-20 miles south of P'ville there was the Erie Canal. An interesting party of NYS transportation history. It was ironic that as I rode along the trail I quickly heard a rail train tooting it's horn. Later I would cross interstates, and now I'm staying near the local airport. Only the canal is no longer a viable alternative for commercial transportation. However, it does provide some home owners a great place to life by and of course recreation.

The fruited plains.

Bill ShaneyfeltIf they have 5 petals, they are phlox... If they have 4, they are dames rocket.

Dames rocket is an invasive... On the other hand, it is edible and tastes ok while its flowers are actually quite tasty.

Jamie DolanTo Bill ShaneyfeltI did not know that! I'll have to look into eating those invasives. My wife actually returned home early as she was scheduled to lead an invasive species pull of chervil in our home town.

Housing is quite carried along the canal. Certainly most is upscale but there are also very modest trailers as well.

This caught my eye because of all the colors. But the idea behind it is so much better as you'll see in the next picture.

Aaah, today I saw  a gold finch and a yellow warbler.  ( And a crazy amount of Canada geese.) Ok product placement is not a strong suit. Another random item. There be Amish in the area. I stopped at one of the local stand for some baked goods. Always fun to see the Amish.

As a final note, Tina of course arrived home in fine fettle  on Thursday. She did arrive tired and with only 5% battery left but she made it. Seems Tina likes life on the edge sometimes.
