Waitaminnit. The olives are brought to the table ( and bread)..If you don’t eat them are they “repurposed” to another table, or is it tossed out for ( proper) sanitary reasons? Unless you eat it, someone else “pays”.

Ahhh, the good old days. Now,you're lucky to get a box that fits your bike. Nothing extra allowed inside, leave it open so they can check it, hope it isn't too badly mangled when (if) it arrives!

Way back in 1992, we flew to Paris with our bikes in cardboard boxes, with all our other stuff crammed in too; it was a different world then when it came to air travel.

For our return flight, we had been assured that bike boxes would be available at the airport, so we got there very early to allow plenty of time to pack our bikes, panniers, and camping gear. Yes, we could get bike boxes from the airline, but not until we had checked in—and we couldn’t check in until 3 hours before our flight. We were worried because it had taken us 3 hours to pack our bikes at home, with so much trial and error determining how much we had to disassemble to fit our bikes into the boxes we’d obtained from a bike shop. But the boxes provided by Air France were huge! Remove the pedals, turn the handlebars, and the bike would just drop in! We kept those boxes for years but never used them again.

Sounds fabulous. Fresh fruit of any kind tastes wonderful, and freebies are always extra good.

Oranges (and other citrus) begin to ripen in December and hang on for a long time. When I was a student at Arizona State in Tempe, a friend had a grapefruit tree with some grapefruits nearly as large as my head! Those were ripe from the previous year! His family did not like them and he said I could have all I wanted. I picked some of the big ones and took them home. I peeled one and found the skin to have thickened to over an inch! Most of that was very airy white stuff. The center had quit growing once it ripened and since it was over a year since it ripened, the seeds had germinated and had roots grown almost to the outer skin! The fruit itself was absolutely wonderful! Sweetest grapefruits I ever had.

Congratulations on making it to Valencia, and to a hotel with a 10 jammer breakfast! So glad things are going well for you now after a difficult journey. It's great you'll be staying in Europe for three months. We look forward to following along, especially your time in Mallorca!

This is where I'd rather look at -14F. At least it would be warmer in my head.

I missed the point when I saw this and didn’t notice that the overhead sign is reversed. No wondermyou were confused.
