4 months agoI did an Internet search. The American Battle Monuments Commission webpage describes it but never mentions when it was built but Wikipedia tells us it was built for the American Battle Monuments Commission in 1933 and inaugurated in 1937 and I even found a video posted of its dedication (https://www.abmc.gov/video/naval-monument-at-gibraltar-dedication-in-1937/).
4 months agoOur guide said it was put up after the second world war. Your hypothesis does make a lot of sense but......?
4 months agoI suspect the monument was erected after WWI and before WWII.
4 months agoThey look so comfortable and yet the waterwheel is huge and they are really high above the ground.

The two taller plants are Norfolk Island Pine trees. Very majestic and a bit too difficult to decorate with ornaments.
