Admitedly you're right. The reward is experiencing these things for the first time and telling the story. I hadn't actually seen the jungles raves or the FMP before for whatever reason. And I think what it is, coming from China where they increasingly crack down on this sort of thing, fun and partying is rarer by the day. So in my view at least the partying represents scarce opportunities that need to be seized. But Koh Phangan is changing that mentality as you could live here long term and the parties are basically every day.
3 days agoRisk vs reward... (risk management)
As a retired Safety Manager this still rings true even all these years after retiring.
That was an enormous amount of risk!!
What was the reward?
I fail to understand the "gotta party" mentality of it.
Chaos is not a reward...
3 days agoHi Andrea, yeah I looked into this they're only doing it to accounts that aren't tied to a registered local number. I'm in the clear.

Who knows what Unca Donald can achieve?
Wow. This is one of the most acute and insightful things you've ever written. I left my job at 55, also in education. I have said that if it were just about being and working with kids, I'd still be there. But the systems in place in my very large urban school district and the degradation of standards under the guise of new (untested but data-heavy) curriculums were gross and I couldn't take it anymore. Plus I had been diagnosed with asbestos-related disease and there were bike rides to take and places to go.
1 month agoDo you have a photo of your old passport on your phone? I wonder if that would work if you wanted to train to Ayutthaya or somewhere quieter, get a $12 bungalow at the edge of town (those usually don't require a passport) and chill for awhile. If you have a receipt for your passport renewal that may help too.

1 month agoThat's incredible. Great find.
1 month agoHow about 200 a day?
I started doing that most days 20 some years ago. Now, at 79, I have a streak of 3120 consecutive days of 100 or more. Usually much more, sometimes 1000. In sets, of course.
Never quit exercising!
We've had two odd but interesting experiences in Bang Boet both times we were there too, what is it about this place? But people are kind there.
