Hello Amigo Jeremy, here in Southern Ecuador I met a Colombian who's from Sandona which's on the banks of la Cocha. She wouldn'tt believe that we saw toucan's there. So shared her a link to your blog. Hope you are well. Thanks again for inspiring us on to this life changing bike trip..:-)

Being an old cyclist with deteriorating knees, I can only do 10-20 miles a day unloaded now, so following journals is a way of getting out. Having a Zoology degree and never getting to actually use it much in my career in explosives safety, I enjoy helping ID nature stuff. Having retired in 2008, I have more time to look up stuff. I know what it is like to try and keep up a journal and post photos with limited time, limited energy and limited internet... (My last tour was "Heart Attack Comeback" posted on the cgoab cycle touring site. Still without many nature IDs since hitcount dropped to about zero when I finished) Thanks for the efforts!

Thank you Bunny! Hopefully Baja or Canada will be next. Gotta slowly connect all of these trips together into one long, epic trail.

I just wanted to let you know.... Estie had to submit a writing sample as her last step for her homeschool assessment. The biggest part of it was about "her amazing California cousin, Jeremy and his biking adventure". Sending all the good vibes your way.

Kind of! People often have little patios with some chairs out front, and that's usually a sign that they offer food. Usually it's just a flat rate for a lunch and drink. People have been unbelievably kind. There is a lot about Colombia that the US could learn from.

When you say you stopped at a small house for lunch, does this mean just a random person's house? I'm amazed at the kindness of everyone to provide you with shelter and meals so readily. I wish the U.S. was more like this!

Hey no problem. One do not miss if you're in the area is the dirt road from Salento through the small village of Toche where you can overnight and then out to pavement at Cajamarca. Also, keep in mind that Nate is an absurdly strong cyclist who travels light on a fast bike - you may not be able to do his itineraries day for day.
