Out of all of the things I could comment on, or ask - this is my one question - where do you get a bag big enough and sturdy enough for the airlines to accept it? Factoring in that you area also comfortable with it's durability for your belongings. I need something for my bicycle seat this summer. In 2023, we happened to have a duffel on wheels that was perfect for the task. This trip is point to point, so we don't want to carry it with us, or ship it ahead. Perhaps your type of sturdy plastic bag is what I desire?
I'm happy you are on the ground and riding!
It all seems like a dream. One of those you are happy to recall. What a good son, beautiful granddaughters, generous Dad and Rachael and grateful Mom.
2 months agoThe Raven is an excellent car, we certainly enjoyed it on our way back from San Luis Obispo. All hail the faithful steed, may it survive the midwest for many years to come.
2 months agoEven when really not needed Dodie has been requesting wheelchair assistance at every point of the trip where it is possible. Helps if knees are sore, helps in an unfamiliar airport layout, helps get preboarding, just generally really helps.

2 months agoI'm really glad I didn't know anything about this while it was happening. I have PTSD just reading this. But you're right, you're there now and let the fun begin!
2 months agoThat’s really why I led with arrival. No sense folks seeing the blow by blow fiasco and worrying about us.
2 months agoYou’ve been following along too long. I must be getting too easy to read.
2 months agoSo you were in Munich, were you? At the same time we were in Italy, a week on Lake Garda. In the meantime back home, and you are in Italy.
I was glad to know in advance that you arrived safely. Reading this I was seriously worried.
I was wondering about that handlebar bag...

2 months agoOh, funny. You’re right, a natural. I should start thinking about that myself from time to time.

You mean for the accessories, not the bikes themselves (ours were suitcased) - right? Pretty simple - from the airline counter when we checked in. Not on this flight though, but the one to Tucson when we had to carry the wheels separately because I couldn’t remove the pedals. The Alaska desk just hauled one out, and it was sturdy enough that I kept it and used it again this time.
2 months agoIt’s not the first time we’ve gotten one of these at the check-in desk though. There have been at least a couple of times when they’ve hauled one out to enclose my panniers so they’d handle more securely and conveniently.
