I'm enjoying the journal, Keith! Two questions:
1. What led you to take the mountainous route through Idaho to Missoula and not the flat route through Boise and then east? Was it for the scenery and adventure?
2. How are you typing your entries? Do you have a keyboard?
It was nice seeing the two of you as well.
3 years agoI've thought about, but not yet acted on, a few things. Apart from my rain gear and one of the two CPAP batteries I think I have used everything else at least twice.
The stuff I bought is replacements for thing lost, broken, worn out, or eaten so no net gain over baseline.
Yep. We had a nice chat over, and after, dinner.
3 years agoThanks Susan. I'll keep an eye peeled for it
3 years agoGreat to meet you today, Keith! We were indeed perplexed when Chris was greeted by name upon entering the ACA headquarters.
3 years agoI read your recent post that you made several purchases in Missoula. At this point in the tour, have you found any other items to purge?
Jacinto is still carrying that glass quart jar of honey that he bought on week two! It's a good thing it did not break yesterday when he crashed during the dog chase. Imagine what a mess his pannier would be!
Emma used to live in DC. She probably knows some people you know
3 years agoIf you're going up Lost Trail Pass into the Big Hole and Wisdom you might be interested in stopping at the Big Hole National Monument on the way down into Wisdom. There is (was) a moving film/slide show that recounts the story of the US Cavalry raid/massacre of the Nez Perce men, women and children camped in the Big Hole https://www.nps.gov/biho/index.htm
I lived in Hamilton for 4 years in the 1980s and this was always a stop on my "Silver Dollar Tour" for visitors.
Great trip so far - sorry to hear about all the flats!
Nsh- I already *did* that. :) No need to do it again.
3 years agoLolo Pass! You’re doing it!
3 years agoThanks Bill. I could, and probably should, be looking these up for myself but I like have an expert on call to do it for me. :)
3 years agoI ton't think my bike has that feature. If it oes, I've yet to find it. Oh well.
Highs for this coming week are expected to be in the upper 90s but the lows still ge into the 50s, so early starts are an essential strategy. Some riders choose to take some down time in the heat of the day and resume riding come evening; I'm not so sure that'll work for me but I may consider it.
Thanks Greg! So far so good. I think the toughest week of the trip is about to land on me. If I can make it through that, and over Chief Joseph Pass, I'll have hope of completing the trip. But this coming week will tell the tale, I think.

Our office was indeed fun! Volleyball, biking, ultimate frisbee, 5:01, etc. We worked hard (ugh - proposals) and we played hard. And many of us ended up married to each other 😆
