Don’t feel bad. I met a couple of bike tourists while overnight camping in Kooskia, ID this summer. Two weeks later I realized that I’d been following her blog and didn’t realize it was her.

I met an eastbound tourist in a Blanding UT on my 2019 ride. He was exhausted mentally and physically. This year we rendezvoused in Leoti KS. Small world.
BTW, I’ll be making a journal on Cycleblaze of my blog posts over on Rootchopper.com. I need a big block of time to do it.

i just checked my journal - we were in Bryce on June 19th! We were so close, and yet so far. I think we crossed paths without knowing it.

Now that I realize the time frames were so similar, the weather comment isn't as valid. It was unseasonably nice that year.

It's interesting how many cyclists you ran into. I think we saw two the whole trip.

I can't include a link in a comment. The journal I'm speaking of is "I've never been so ill prepared . . . ".

My helmet off to you! I didn't have the nerve to attempt this route - especially in the heat. You don't mention the temperature. Do you do heat well?

We went Moab/Green River/ Hanksville, and missed all of that great scenery. I think we stayed at the same cabins you did.

A fellow Pagan - "Imagine" is my theme song too. I'm renewing my memories of the Transam reading your journal - the Dutch Blueberry pie I had at Cooky's was so good that maybe I'll ride the Transam again just to get another slice.

Ah, Salida. By far my favorite town in Colorado. My wife and I took a rest day there in 2016, on our Great Divide tour.

Yes. It was Riverside Drive. And Jesse could not have been more adamant about me staying away from North St. Louis. I had heard about East Saint Louis (hometown of Jimmy Conners). North Saint Louis reminds me of parts of Baltimore. Scary.

I lived in the small town of Lebanon, Illinois, 20-something miles from St. Louis, from 2012 to 2018, and am very familiar with where you were riding. I'd often take country roads and bike paths to the Gateway Arch and surrounding area. You must have gotten on Riverside Drive when you abandoned the muddy bike trail. Holy shit, that really would be a terrible road to ride on.

Also, Jerry was not exaggerating about the violence in that area. I've ridden all over the place, and North St. Louis is probably the most dangerous place I've been. Much worse than East St. Louis, IL, across the river. That city has a bad reputation, but it's not as bad as the worst St. Louis neighborhoods.
