Trujillo to Montsánchez

Today we say good-bye to Susan. We have had so much fun together, Susan is a wonderful travel companion and the week has gone by so fast. But we shed no tears - our paths will cross again here in Spain next week.

Hasta luego, Susan!

After good-bye hugs we set out on foot for a look at the old town. This is why we came Trujillo after all.

We run into Susan on our way.

The Plaza Mayor of Trujillo captivated us, we didn't get any further until we were on our bikes riding out of town.

Scott AndersonOh, good. I thought you and Susan were both going to skip town without giving us a look.

El conquistador Pizarro brought wealth to Trujillo, his home town.

The granite of the terrain is used as part of the foundation of buildings.

After our little photo session in Trujillo we finally got on the road. The first 15 kilometers were the same route that I rode with Susan yesterday on our way in to Trujillo. This time it was a descent, I was rested and it's always interesting to see the same stretch from the other direction. Yesterday I was more interested in getting to our hotel than stopping for pictures or a closer look.

It was beautiful sunny day and much warmer than yesterday. I think the bad weather has passed and we are in for some fine weather now.

Again wide open countryside

A little more than midway we stopped at Salvatierra de Santiago for a bite to eat. It's a sleepy little town and with some effort we managed to find what I believe was its only open cafe/bar.

We take a break at Bar Fe

A nice place where they made us tostadas with cheese.

Again we loved the countryside we were passing through. It was a short day, but the end of the day held the challenge. We had steep climb, one for our lowest gears, with some 9% stretches.

Not for the first time we had difficulties finding our lodgings, not fun riding up and down narrow and steep cobbled streets, half of them one-way. Eventually our hostess found us, she knew we were coming by bike, and saw us helplessly wandering around the approximate area. We had a little apartment to ourselves and decided not to try to find a restaurant for a late dinner but rather do some shopping for a room picnic. The pickings were meager at the supermercado but we got some cheese and fruit and stuff and didn't starve.
