Mickelson Trail South

The Mickelson Trail … I’ve heard about this trail for at least 20 years, a top 10 rail trail, the best of the best. And, the trail didn’t disappoint. At 109 miles in length, we didn’t really have the time window to ride the whole thing so we decided we would stay at Custer and do some out and back rides.

Today we rode from Custer 20 miles south and returned. The trail is crushed stone and every bit as hard as many paved roads we have ridden. Despite yesterday’s rains, we found the trail dry and in excellent shape. Road intersections tended to be nice although we found a few that definitely had a bounce to them. The images speak for themselves.
