Day 10 Deer Ridge C.G. to Indianapolis KOA - Mt. Comfort, IN

This was not an overly exciting day on the road. A couple of rain showers cooled me off, but nothing serious enough to break out the foul weather gear. I stopped for lunch at a Mexican restaurant in Knightstown. While I was contemplating Mexican for lunch vs. my standard road fare, a man approached saying he’d passed me earlier in the day and that I was making good time (HA!). He recommended the restaurant, but my choice of ribeye steak was horrid. After lunch he and his friend peppered me with the usual questions, and he would very much like to make a similar trip.

I went  off route in Greenville for a Kroger run. Nasty traffic getting to the store, but the return leg was much nicer when I let the gps gadget route me. It’s very clever knowing what roads are good for bikes and I should let it do the work more often.

No overly dramatic scenery today.  Flat with large field of corn and soybeans.

Ken GrossHi Barb & Jim! Not Michigan this trip. Your part of the state is great, but the U.P. and over to northern Wisconsin is not fit for man nor beast. Mosquitoes!

Hope you are doing well.

I do appreciate small town artwork. This mural is in East Germantown, IN. There are a couple in town with horse-based themes.

Chicory (blue daisies) have been a constant companion this trip. Some would consider it a weed, but I love the color.

Ken GrossNow THATs interesting Bill, I never would have thought. I can forage the roadside all the way to Oregon, and shucks, lasso an Angus and I’ve got ‘er licked.

This KOA campground holds the record for the most expensive in my travels over these past four years. It also comes close to holding the record for the worst for tent camping. It caters to the mega land yachts and has a wonderful pool/splash park for kids. But we tent-only guests are relegated to the outfield and out of sight of the mega crowd. The operation very much reminds me of high-end marinas with dock boys skittering about to manage mooring lines, connect power, connect water, and collect tips. Here they use a quad ATV buggy to escort the land yachts to the designated slot and go through the same tip generating activities. They even have a small pizza oven in the camp store and the dock boys deliver.

I indulged in a dish of ice cream after getting camp set up. The ice cream server asked if I’d like to add it to my bill! Good grief, running a tab at a campground is beyond the pale.

Most expensive and nearly the worst. Note food bag hanging on fence … doubt a clever raccoon would find it overly challenging, but it was unmolested.
