Getting ready to go on tour again

It is just like riding a bike

At the start and finish of every bike tour Scott disassembles our Bike Fridays and fits them into their Samsonite suitcases. It is a process that he understands well but at the same time the specific packing steps must be remembered and completed carefully.  For sure the  suitcases will take a beating on route and the well being of the bikes depends on them being correctly stowed away. The Bike Fridays are really a marvel in design that allow for easy transport through airports and when reassembled they are capable of providing many enjoyable hours  on a  bike tour. They have served us very well  over the past dozen years that started with our very first  ride from Munich, Germany.

Our first tour fortunately did not end in Dvorce (Slovakia) and we still use the same Bikes Fridays.

Although we have returned to  Europe to cycle tour many times over the years we have never been back to Germany until now. Our cycle tour choices seem to have little real rhyme or reason and somehow a destination and route just  get selected. From there, the grand plan gets built one step at a time. This just so happens to be Germany's time and we are excited to visit.

Our route will take us from Frankfurt along the Main River to the Sim River where we begin to head north. Once we reach  Hannoversch Münden we will join the  Weser Cycle Path on route to Bremen. From there we will head east and ultimately link up with the Berlin-Copenhagen long-distance cycle route. It looks to be a tidy, well thought-out tour in Germany but we are sure that we can mess it up somehow! In any case, cycle touring always presents challenges that need to be over come and this one this likely to be no exception. Maybe it is just like riding a bike. Thank you for stopping in to check up on us and we hope that you will find the trip interesting as well. We will be sure to tell you all about it. Time to finish the packing, we leave tomorrow!

Scott FenwickThanks Scott. Fortunately old habits die hard. I have been following with interest Rachael and your current tour. And as always learning from your experiences - keep your bike joints well lubricated, trains can be tricky things to navigate and dialing the rides back a bit is not a bad thing!

Barry DevlinOn tour again? But it's still the hockey playoff season! I guess you could always "steal your daddy's stick and make a living out of playing hockey"... later. Have fun.

Scott FenwickThanks Suzanne. Coming from the CB resident expert on Germany your thoughts on the route are very encouraging. Munich would be a great addition. If all goes well we just may need to organize a second ride.
