Two stories
Today was a mostly flat day, but there were a few hills. On a 400+ lb bike, any hill feels big. One such hill was when we crossed the Embarrass River. Where did the river get it's name? That became obvious when a dozen people who had been skinny dipping in the shallows quickly slipped under the surface just before I snapped this picture.
Those were not the only skinny dippers we saw today. These ladies were enjoying a relaxing swim when we passed by in the morning. If it had been in the afternoon when the temperature was in the 90s, we might have joined them.
We left the Wabash watershed today, soon after visiting the birthplace of the not so mighty Little Wabash River.

We enjoyed visiting a tourist attraction in the village of Gays - the famous 2 story outhouse, built in 1869. Who would have guessed a town if only 300 people would have such an attraction?
The attraction features both a poem and a song.
We passed an interesting church in Kansas, Illinois. It looks at first like a typical elementary school. I wonder if it started out as a school, but today it has stained glass windows and the church name carved in stone.
Another town we passed through was Charleston, Illinois. It featured a bridge over a railroad track that was rated for 3 ton traffic, but looked so rickety we were afraid to cross with both bikes at the same time. Charleston has an extensive network of mountain biking tracks. We stopped at a local bike shop called the Bike & Hike to see if the tracks were suitable for our tandems. They weren't, but a paved trail is planned for the near future and the friendly guys in the shop told us how to avoid traffic as we went through town.
