Day 53 Marquette, MI

We had another beautiful day of cycling in the UP.  Our route today was much shorter than yesterday's, so we were looking forward to a great day.

The sun was still low as we rode east at 8:30.

We road next to these railroad tracks for miles but didn't have any trains pass.

We visited the Michigan Iron Industry Museum near Marquette on the way in this afternoon.  It was an interesting look at the history of iron mining in the UP.  There were exhibits about iron mining from the mid 1800's ti the present day.  Right now, there is only one active iron mine in Michigan.

I think this is the first lock at Sault Ste Marie connecting Lake Superior to lower Great Lakes.

This is out of date. The woman at the desk there is just one active mine left in Michigan.

After a few nights of fair to middling roadside motels through northern Wisconsin and Michigan, we're at a very nice Hampton Inn in Marquette with a beautiful view of Lake Superior.
