Day 67 Salem to Brandenburg, KY

Today we rode back into Kentucky. We left Salem and headed south. We noticed a lot more corn growing than we had been seeing. At our first rest stop, a couple told us that the area raised primarily popcorn. We also saw some cattle, which we had not noticed along our recent routes.

In far southern Indiana, just north of the Ohio River, we found Squire Boone Caverns. It is a privately owned cavern system open for tours. It was fun to see. There was a recreated grist mill on the site as well. They told us that the caverns were discovered by Daniel Boone's younger brother, Squire Boone, who lived nearby and built the original grist mill on the site. They had a very friendly and apparently very pregnant cat who posed for pictures. There was also Kerry, who hates to pose for pictures, but I sneaked up on him for one.

I took some pictures on the cavern tour. They didn't come out great, but here are a few of them.

Dinner tonight was at Little Dave's Roadhouse. It was very good, the service was outstanding and Little Dave himself was working the room, checking on his customers and serving bread. He looked like a guy who had been in the business a long time and was still enjoying every minute of it. We had a good time there.

Today's ride: 54 miles (87 km)
Total: 3,164 miles (5,092 km)
