Sum Numbers - Tearing Down the Coast - CycleBlaze

Sum Numbers

  • 25 Total days on the road including riding The Dog to Vancouver.
  • 23 Days from BC to BC. The newspaper printed 24 but I remember 23.  #FAKE NEWS!
  • 17 Days on the bikes riding south.
  • 1,700 miles (2,700 km) total distance - more or less?
  • 100 miles (160 km) per day average distance traveled.
  • 125 approx. average miles (200 km) per full day riding.
  • 190+ miles (300+ km) longest day - only full day in Washington.
  • 36 miles (58 km) shortest day - San Diego to Tijuana.
  • 65 miles (105 km) shortest full day - Southern Oregon to Crescent City.
  • 18 to 20 mph (28 to 32 kph) average speed for the tour - That’s pretty  much a wild guess.
  • Top speed - Fast! Probably 100+ kph. Much, much faster than I’d ever consider now.
  • Most miles in an hour - 45 (70 km). King City, California
  • Shortest time for 100 miles (160 km) - three and a half hours. King City
  • Longest time for 10 miles - an eternity. King City
  • 9 flats - Mostly blowouts, which sounded like a shotgun being fired.   These were cotton/gum rubber tubulars. When they blew they were   mostly beyond repair. The fact they were glued to the rims saved us   from serious crashes.
  • 1 crank arm and 1 freewheel were replaced.
  • 1 crash - This is about my average on tour but this one, in Northern   Oregon, has to rank as the all time most spectacular.
  • 3 newspaper articles - Only two survive.
  • 1 TV coverage - 30 seconds at the very most at the very end of the 11:00 news in San Diego.
