On to Gimmelwald - Back to the Swiss Alps and on to the Istrian Peninsula - CycleBlaze

On to Gimmelwald

And up into the snow capped mountains

Trains, Busses and cable cars got us to Gimmelwald and then three more cable cars to get up the Schilthorn mountain. It was a fabulous crisp clear day with lots of beautiful Swiss scenery. We are staying in Gimmelwald a tiny car free town perched on the edge of a cliff overlooking the Lauterbrunen valley. It’s gorgeous, slower paced and the scenery just can’t be beat.

We headed to the train station this morning to get started on the next phase of our journey. We are going to stay a few days in the Lauterbrunen valley.

As we were riding along we could often pick out places that we had ridden a few days before.

Yellow are buttercups... likely meadow buttercup, but there are several buttercup species in the area according to what I find on the internet.

There were lots of people with bikes riding up in the cable car in order to ride back down the mountain. Sporty mountain bikers

On the way up in the cable car. We had to take three cable cars up from Gimmelwald to get to the top of the Schilthorn.

At the very top of the Schilthorn is Piz Gloria a revolving restaurant gift shop etc and exit for skiers. This is where the James Bond movie on her majesties secret service was filmed. They have a museum there that gives behind the scenes information on how the movie was filmed

There was a big updraft there and our hair was standing on end. No wonder the parasailers where having so much fun up there.

Down at Birg where you change cable cars to get up the Schilthorn they have a cliff walk where you can try tightrope walking over thin air…

Luckily there is a metal net under you to keep you safe.
