Day 7 - Rest Day in Montélimar

After a great dinner at the pizza restaurant “Napoleone”, we crashed for the night and slept well in our quiet room at the Cit’Hotel Sphinx.

An interesting take on a Caprese Salad. Robin said it’s one of the best she’s ever tasted.

We really should have opted for the hotel breakfast.  After prowling the streets, we ended up with some pastries from La Mie Caline and coffees at one of the cafes on the street in front of the hotel.  Not the healthiest option, but hey, it’s a rest day!

One important task was to do some laundry, which we accomplished at the “Lavoir Contemporain - Laverie Montélimar centre”.  It was a short walk across town, and a very smooth experience - the machines inject the soap so all you need is a cash or credit card to come out smelling like a rose.

Kirsten KaarsooWe used this type of laundromat in San Sabastian it was great how smooth it worked. It was also super clean without the gummed up soap dishes etc.

It was Sunday so the markets were only open until 1230h.  Thinking ahead for once, we bought some non-bread food for lunch.  We then proceeded to spend the rest of the morning lazing around in our room and munching on lunch.  It’s a rest day!

Rest days can only last so long when Robin is around, though.  By 1400h she was going stir-crazy and we were soon out pounding the pavement in sunny Sunday Montélimar.  The town was almost empty.  The only businesses open were the cafés.  We roamed around the deserted downtown area and climbed up the stairs to check out the Chateau of Montélimar (didn’t go inside, though).

We then walked back down to the Jardin Publique, checked out the wildlife (goats, geese, chickens, over-excited children), walked both sides of the car show that was going on in the the Allées Provençals, and then settled in for a cool drink in one of the cafés.   Then back to the room for more rest.

For dinner, we wandered out to the Café de la Bourse, where Robin had a great Salade Gourmande and Rich enjoyed Mussels/Frites with a curry sauce.    No pictures because we were too busy stuffing our faces!  A recommended address if you’re in town overnight.

All in all, a good rest day.  Back on the bike tomorrow!

That's called an active rest day. Keeps the muscles from getting tight. ;^)
