Day 1: Sandpoint ID to Newport WA

Yesterday we drove from Boise to Sandpoint. Now our bikes are loaded and we're ready to go. Those new Ortliebs are too clean!

The cool forests in Northern Idaho feel great after the dry heat in Boise.

We don't waste any time and stop for a hearty breakfast as soon as we reach the pavement. The riders are Patrick and Rachel Hugens and our friend Dan in the middle. Patrick met Dan on his very first visit to the US in 1989 during a Bikecentennial US-west trip.

Well, this is what we came for. We have cycled several long trips in the past, but our last one was seven years ago. Now we have decided to go around the world one more time.... This trip is going to be a reality check for us. Do we really still like bicycle touring, or are we just remembering the 'good' parts?
