Day 18: Orwell to Conneaut
Great Plains to the Great Lakes
The church had a light that came on automatically last night that made it somewhat difficult to sleep. I still got a decent amount of shut-eye and grabbed some breakfast after packing up. Then it was time to get back on the trail. I had about 20 miles on my way North before I had to hop on roads again to Geneva-on-the-Lake. The joy of seeing Lake Erie was pretty magical. It really felt like my first “I did it” moment.
After getting lunch and riding through the olden style town, I trudged on to Conneaut. But the wind was against me. It was a crawl. I wanted to ride alongside the lake, but had to use backroads in hopes the trees would break the wind a bit for me. It was tough. Eventually though, I made it. I got to Tracy’s, who was kind enough to host us for the night, but she had already left for work by the time I got there. However, two other cyclists who just began their journey were also staying the night, so they helped me get acclimated. We then cycled an extra couple of miles to go get ice cream at a 50s style drive in restaurant.

We then came back to Tracy’s and I taught them a card game that I play with my family, called Golf. Steve won. It was a great time! The rain has already started to fall, and we will see how it’s looking in the morning, but I’m expecting a late start.
Today's ride: 59 miles (95 km)
Total: 1,027 miles (1,653 km)
