I’m sure I could have done the ‘mostly’ downhill ride to our next campground. It would have been a dry camp, backpack style. Then the following morning the old Whitebird Grade loomed. We road it back in 2013. I was younger. The further north we travelled, the more remote services and connectivity became. Therefore it was decision time this morning.
I am plum tuckered out. I haven’t slept the last three nights and I’m not recovering. Plug your ears, additionally my bottom side hasn’t been this sore since I was a baby and even then, I just don’t remember it. The saddle sores are a big discomfort on and off the bike. Finally we realized yesterday that our racks and panniers are not the ideal setup for our final week which would cover a portion of the great divide route into eastern Idaho.

As promised we had coffee with Jim and Lynn this morning. No longer a quick cup, we sat and visited like we’ve known each other forever. It is amazing how connected we are. Actually should not be a surprise. Anyway, our friend Bryan, aka Moses agreed to drive up to New Meadows and fetch us but that wouldn’t happen till later this afternoon. Then miraculously Jim stated, I gotta get going soon to pick up my grandson at NNU after his sports camp.  Hmm? What kinda car you driving? Would it fit two bikes, gear and a couple tired and sore cyclists?

Soon we were headed south, still visiting. Soon we were in Nampa. And as we unloaded my eyes locked into someone looking familiar. NNU and ID was out of place. Where? Tuscany! Hey, Tuscany, we biked in Tuscany last fall. Terry lives in Florida now but once lived in McCall. Her son loved NNU sports camp so she was there to pick him up.

Soon Moses arrived to haul us to our home in Boise. Bryan is what Proverbs calls “a friend closer than brother”.

So now what? We are not done. Mainly we have a car in Idaho Falls waiting. Then there is a July 4th celebration in Darby with friends. After a couple days off the bike, we will drive our van to IF.  We may take some shorter gravel in eastern ID rides as diaper rash allows. We will also ride up the Bitterroot while in Darby as planned. So if y’all would allow a little grace, we will be back in a few days.

Laura SeiditaSometimes things don't go as we think they "should". Glad you are both well and just need a few days to recover. Can't wait to see you in Boise later in July!

George (Buddy) HallI'm not so young myself anymore, and every tour gets a bit more difficult. Don't be hard on yourself - take a bit of rest time, but not too much - then start back up! I'm enjoying following along in the journal, best of luck
