Day 1: Prairie to Chaparral Campground

Bike Touring News group that wasn't

We are dropped off in Prairie by Frans and Petra. The plan is to meet up with a group from Bike Touring News led by Ryan for an overnight at the Chaperelle Campground above Featherville. We will then continue onto Ketchum-Stanley-Lowman. This is only a small part of the Idaho Hot Springs Loop.

Beautiful Idaho

Rachel discovers she has left her helmet and gloves on the kitchen floor. And later we realize also left behind are spoons and Patrick's off the bike underwear. Have we toured before?

We reach Pine and stop at the store for ice cream and a cold drink. We continue on to Featherville. At the bar, we see a cyclist and in talking with him find out this is Ryan. The Campground is about 4 miles further on from the junction.  Ryan is waiting for other cyclists. We buy a couple of beers and chips for camp. There is a cafe next door to the bar but we have our food with us.

We start out and reach the campground. In talking with the host, we find out the campground is full and what Ryan had planned for us all to camp in the middle space was not going to happen. Patrick talks with the host who then finally relents to let us camp by the river at the edge of the campground.

We wash in the river and then Ryan and other cyclists ride by with the host following soon. The host will not let others camp with us. So, they ride back toward Featherville to find a spot to camp.

We fix Lentils, Tumeric Rice with added Chicken and Pita Bread.

The Bicycle Touring group arrives, we have hopes that the host will allow them to camp with us...but that was a no go.
