San Pedro - The seventeenth step ... one step beyond! - CycleBlaze

San Pedro

It was a cool start today and we wore our jackets for the first ten kilometers or so.  This was also the hillier section of the ride so we soon warmed up.   The ride became a bit easier as we approached Combapata where we had planned to spend the night.

American Kestrels (Falco sparverius) are as common as ditch water here. Every kilometer or two another one can be seen perching on the overhead lines.

Combapata is apparently well known for its three bridges spanning a river that feeds into the Urubamba.  They date from three different eras. The first is Inca, the second colonial, and the third republican.

The Inca bridge is a replica of course.

The colonial bridge has also had major renovations.

The republican bridge built at the end of the 19th century. A modern bridge now stands between it and the colonial bridge.

It seems like the bridges are the town's only attraction and with no decent accomodation available  we decided to push on to San Pedro where we found a very good hospedaje for the night (thank you iOverlander).  Until we arrived in San Pedro we felt that yesterday's hike hadn't affected us too much but we faded quickly after we had checked in.

it seems as if we will have a very short ride to Sicuani tomorrow.

Today's ride: 43 km (27 miles)
Total: 138 km (86 miles)
