Having covered 440 kilometers over the preceding 7 days we now have only 200 kilometers to go until Mendoza with lots of time in hand. This means that we can take our time and visit some bodegas on our way.

Unfortunately we could only secure accommodation near the bodegas south of San Juan as from Monday so we have booked a hotel room for tonight in San Juan itself.

The short ride to San Juan was mostly on a service road alongside Ruta Cuarenta. We had hoped to find a wine bar in thr center of the city in which to relax before checking into our hotel but the city seemed fast asleep at midday.

We did bump into and had a chat with some of the coaching and support staff of the English national rugby team who were also wandering around, seemingly aimlessly. They were waiting to fly up to Washington DC for the test against US national team.

Our hotel for the night is right next to a fantastic bakery so we joined the long queue of customers and bought some foccacia plus a few sweeter options for lunch. Then it was off to a bar two blocks away for some snacks a very good Sauvignon Blanc / Voigner blend.

Tomorrow is another very short ride to a bodega for the next two nights.
