Punta de Balasto
Another day of very little traffic on Ruta Cuarenta. Sometimes all we could hear was the hum of our tyres on the tarmac and the occasional sweak of a Brookes saddle.

Just after the village of Punta de Balasto we arrived at Aries de Posada, a couple of rough cabañas. We had tried calling ahead last night and again this morning without our calls being answered so we were hoping there would be someone here to attend to us. Thankfully there was. Luckily there was still a cabaña available because a group of contractors had filled all the others otherwise we would be wildcamping in the desert tonight.

We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing on the stoep watching the birds flitting around in the dry trees. Later in the afternoon large flocks of Burrowing Parrots came flying by, resting in the tall trees nearby until flying off to their burrows for the night.
The sky clouded over as the afternoon progressed and we might get a spot of rain tonight. We have seen so few clouds on this trip and have only been caught out by rain once (upon entering El Alto back in Bolivia).
We head for Hualfin tomorrow.
Today's ride: 35 km (22 miles)
Total: 1,822 km (1,131 miles)
