Oropesa

The day to start cycling has eventually arrived.  After a week we have become part of the transient community at Hospedaje Estrellita.

My last chin wag with the Old Mens' Club. Glen, John, myself and Paul. Over 250 years of experience, chirped Glen. Four old geezers from four different continent's speaking four different versions of English.

Everyone needed to take photos when we left. Poor Magda was close to tears as we hugged each other and said goodbye.

We only got going after ten o'clock.  The ride out of Cusco was busy but not stressful because there was a cyclovia for the first 14 kilometers and, after a shoulderless section of four kilometers,  a good meter wide shoulder for the rest of the way.  The ride was super easy being mostly downhill.  We hardly had to take a deep breath

We reached Oropesa soon after eleven thirty and had to backtrack a bit to find the hospedaje we had found on iOverlander.   We debated whether we should continue another fifteen kilometers to where another good accomodation option is listed on iOverlander but quickly decided to stick to our original plan.

Hospedaje Raisa is simple but modern and 40 Soles bought us a comfortable matrimonial with an en suite bathroom.  A good choice.

We lunched on some of the famous Oropesa bread known as Pan Chuta.  It is a sweet, anise-flavored bread characterized by its large, flat, round shape, and is typically baked in traditional wood-burning ovens, often with eucalyptus leaves, imparting a distinctive smoky flavor.

Supper was chicken and chips at a polleria just around the corner from the hospedaje.  They don't serve beer but were happy to provide a bottle from the family's private stocks.

Another short day tomorrow but the hills will soon be upon us.

Today's ride: 27 km (17 miles)
Total: 36 km (22 miles)
