Media Agua

Despite a pesky south-easterly wind we had a flat and easy ride on mostly back roads today.  Starting out on Avenida Antonino Aberastain until the village of Carpinteria.  Here we were drawn into a chat with the young owner of a kiosko who, on finding out we were South Africans, wanted to talk about rugby.

Then we joined Ruta Cuarenta for a bit less than seven kilometers before escaping onto quiet roads to the east and turning southwards to Media Agua.

The shade from the large eucalyptus trees hides the fact that, until Carpinteria, the road surface was terrible.

Media Agua is a bit of a mess with extensive roadworks on the go.  We have checked into the Hotel Restó Media Agua which has a series of heavy vehicles being loaded with gravel by front-end loaders naking a terrible racket.  Hopefully it will calm down tonight.

The pile of sand and gravel extends for about half a kilometer down the road. They have a lot of work ahead of them until they have moved all of it.

We have about a hundred and twenty kilometers to go until Mendoza, almost all of it on RutaCuarenta.   Our accomodation there is only available from Friday so we will stop off somewhere north of the city tomorrow.

Today's ride: 48 km (30 miles)
Total: 2,718 km (1,688 miles)
