Hualfin

As forecast,  it tried to rain last night.  The cabaña had a corrugated iron roof and no ceiling  so we were expecting to deafened by the noise but all we got were a few pitiful taps from sporadic drops.  So we were wonderfully surprised to wake up this morning with the mountains behind the cabaña covered with a dusting of snow.

It was cold to start off with but by midday it was pleasant cycling weather.  On shorter days we really need to start cycling at eleven o'clock if we can because it is usually still below double digits at ten o'clock, which is the time we usually start because that is the check out time of most hotels, hostals, cabañas etc in Argentina.

Four layers on our upper bodies, tracksuit pants over our cycling shorts, buffs around our ears and necks and full length gloves to start the day.

Today's ride was largely through desert-like vegetation,  much of it on a plateau surrounded by mountains, many of which were blessed with snow overnight.  Ruta Cuarenta was once again very quiet and we cycled side by side for much of the day.  Cycling has been so pleasant since we reached Ruta Cuarenta.

We had a testy headwind for the last thirty kilometers but since it was mostly downhill from there to Hualfin it didn't bother us too much.  We have had so little wind on this trip it would have been petty to complain.

We are spending tonight at the municipal hosteria, the best option in the village.  Tomorrow should be an easy ride to Belén where we will take a day off to watch some rugby.

Today's ride: 82 km (51 miles)
Total: 1,904 km (1,182 miles)
