Chaupihausi
Another cold start today but at least we had bright sunshine and blue skies. It was just over zero when we set off at ten and it never really warmed up with the maximum predicted being ten or eleven degrees.
Our route took us southwards along the eastern edge of a range of attractive mountains. Unfortunately much of the time the road was dead straight, in itself less than appealing, and we had to crane our necks to enjoy the view. Its saving grace was that there was very little traffic.

We passed two well known signboards on Ruta Cuarenta. The first being kilometer marker 4040 where we stopped for a quick lunch. This is the distance from the road's start near the Straits of Magellan.
The second was the 4000 kilometer mark just a few kilometers before the end of the ride. Unfortunately this had been defaced by numerous stickers that other travelers, mostly motorcyclists by the look of things, had placed there.

Our digs for the night is Hospedaje Don José in the village of Chaupihuasi. Somewhat overpriced for the facilities it has but this is often the case when options are limited.
We head to Pituil tomorrow. Temperatures are rising steadily over the next few days so hopefully we won't be as cold as we were today.
Today's ride: 83 km (52 miles)
Total: 2,062 km (1,281 miles)
