Day 0: Driving the Old Men to Waynesboro VA and Praying at the Altar of the Weather Channel

June Drops Us Off, Rain Drops Threaten

Chris' wife June drove us to Waynesboro in the midst of pouring rain. Our planned early start never materialized - by 3 pm we were eating at a Shoney's, still within shouting distance of home. After a two hour drive through pouring rain, June dropped us off at the Waynesboro Comfort Inn and we immediately began to worship at the altar of the Weather Channel: flash flood watches for the entire area, predictions for up to 10 inches of rain, continuing all week. Sigh.

The manly adventure was about to begin. Intense rain and flash flooding would not stop the engineers from their destiny.

It rained so hard that night we had the Waynesboro Pizza Hut deliver some disgusting Saltine-cracker based pizza and watched some ridiculous TV show about Venice Beach bike police. Periodic trips back to the Weather Channel confirmed a long week of soggy cycling ahead.

The dreaded yellow blobs on the weather radar screen.
