Day 79 - Punishing

I left at 5:40am from Halfway for the 54 mile ride to Baker City. I immediately hit a 1,100 foot climb followed by a long downhill into Lander and some food. The next 34 miles were quite difficult for four reasons

  1. More climbing - about 1,500 feet
  2. Wind - about 10 to 15 mph right at me
  3. Heat - started cool at 65 degrees but rose to mid 90s the last hour of riding
  4. Built up fatigue - I have been riding 9 days without a break with a few tough rides in this stretch

I was quite tired by 2pm when I arrived in Baker City. Decided to take a zero day tomorrow since the next ride is 66 miles with over 4,500 feet of elevation gain over three passes to Prairie City

Eastern Oregon is a desert. The only large green areas are irrigated
