August 14, 2025: The trip is still on. Departure is scheduled for September 4th, from Charlestown, Rhode Island.

My brother is driving me up on September 2nd from Kentucky. I have a motel room reserved in Charlestown for the nights of the 2nd and 3rd, and will start riding on the 4th.

Joy was originally going to drive me to Rhode Island earlier this month, but I hemmed and hawed so long that now school has started at the University of Southern Indiana, where she's a professor, and she can't get away to take me up there.

Other news: I purchased another paper map from Adventure Cycling: Section two of the Atlantic Coast Route. I actually did the route in 2008, but I can't find my old copy of that section. The route has probably changed so much in the last seventeen years that I needed a new map anyway.

I've only done a few short rides since I rode with Jeff Teel, and I won't have time in the next few weeks to do much training, so I will have to "ride myself into shape" on the tour itself.

It looks fairly easy to connect my starting point in Charlestown to the Atlantic Coast section two map - probably just a day and a half of riding. I've played around a little with a tentative route on RideWithGps, but that's all the planning I've done.
