We delayed our departure to give the mud a chance to dry and let the air warm up a little. On the drive we stopped to watch a moose, and realised she had 2 calves nearby. That used up another 30 minutes.
Out on the road we were transported through some "dangerously slippery" roadworks on the back of a ute - I think we'd have been fine, and balancing on the tray holding our bikes seemed to have its own risks, but arguing with road crew is a waste of effort.
We stopped to resupply at a supermarket in Sawtell and started chatting to TD riders about how they weathered the snow the day before. Seems like there were a few who were at risk of hypothermia by being on exposed roads in inadequate clothing. Then the roads turned to peanut butter mud for them.
It was a very easy day's ride to Red Rock Lake and we were very pleased to find the campground almost empty. We were joined later by 4 TD riders, one of who slept in the toilet.
