From Holbrook, it was another pre-dawn start to avoid as much hot afternoon riding as possible, but the plan didn’t quite work out today because we pushed on for 123km. Less climbing than the last few days with only 232 metres of ascent so we were able to manage a respectable average of 20km/hr over 6hrs 19mins of pedalling.
From Holbrook we’ve reached the hamlet of Oaklands which is 121 km from our next main destination, Deniliquin. We don’t need to be there until Saturday for the launch of the Bruce Simpson Rural Scholarship Fund, so we’ll have two easy days tomorrow (to Finley) and Friday (to Deni).
The morning was close to perfect for cycle touring. Excellent weather, quiet country roads, flat topography and beautiful rural scenery. The afternoon was less pleasant as temps again hit the 30s. To offset this, the route had plenty of food and drink stops including Culcairn and Rand.

Happiness is finding a Holbrook Bakery open at 6am
Accommodation for the night. Oaklands Hotel. We met the owner, and discovered that he’s the founder of The Burrumbuttock Hay Run. A well known charity directly supporting farmers badly impacted by drought.
