Day 41: O’Neill to Norfolk
Well, so much for getting a good nights sleep. The rodeo ended about 8 pm, then the concert started and finished about 11:30 pm. Between these two events and the return of our afflictions from an unknown cause, only a few hours of sleep were achieved. The good news is my tent is dry. Overnight rain proved the Scotchgard worked and the duct tape patch is functioning.
We stopped at the local grocery store for supplies and headed out of town on the Cowboy Trail. The grasslands and ranches of the Sandhills have given way to hayfield and dark soil, and corn and soybeans emerged by late afternoon.
A cloudy humid morning gave way to a partly sunny skies but high humidity. There were a few breaks along the way, stopped for lunch at (Elkhart) Riverside Park in Neligh and we grabbed some ice cream at Cubby’s. We finished the Cowboy Trail (Mile 0) on a beautiful section over the Elkhorn River and into Norfolk. We setup camp at Ta Ha Zouka Park along the river in and rode into town for dinner at Whiskey Creek Steakhouse (see burger review).
