Days 7, 8, 9: In Chambéry and to Grenoble

No biking days

A short entry for three days and no pictures. We have had more adversity and you might be rolling your eyes at what this octogenarian has pulled off this time.

The lost wallet wasn't the last event in my bad luck streak. Bad luck or carelessness or stupidity or whatever you want to call it. At least I found my wallet again. But today I lost my phone. And it wasn't under my bed. I lost it on a walk and all my efforts to locate it were futile. I'm not going to make a long story of this and am leaving out all the details of how it probably happened and our search. I am so disgusted that I hardly want to write about it. But I do need a phone for navigation, and of course for communication. We had to find a solution.

In the morning we went to the the police station to enquire once again, but no phone had been turned in today either. I decided the best solution would be to buy a refurbished phone, similar to my old one but an earlier model. We checked out a couple of stores in the neighborhood and found an acceptable offer, paid for it and waited for the expected delivery the next morning at ten.

This was a moving day, from Grenoble to Pont-enRoyan. Susan and the Andersons were taking the train to Grenoble since rain was predicted on and off all day. We took their bags in the car to make traveling easier for them.  But Janos and I could leave I had to pick up my phone. We waited and waited and waited to hear from the store where we bought the phone and finally at two we heard that the phone had been delivered. There was a lot of faffing around at the shop getting it charged and the sim card registered. At four we were finally on our way. By the time we got to Grenoble we were both totally exhausted from the waiting and uncertainty if this had even been a rip off and no phone would materialize from the transaction.

But by now I did have a functioning phone and managed to install the most important apps.

Nancy GrahamIf what “they” say is true, and adversity builds character, you are good for years to come.

I guess we could look at “it could have been worse” scenarios — you could have dropped your camera into the lake, or your bike could have been stolen. But no, we won’t go there. Hopefully all the adversity is done with now. Chin up and shoulders back as you carry on my friend. More good is out there to happen.
